Results Are In: Morris Downtown Survey Complete!

Thank you to everyone who completed the Morris Downtown Resident/Consumer Survey! We had fantastic participation, receiving over 1,000 responses over six weeks. Double-thanks to all those who took the time to elaborate on their ideas and responses via the open comment section. We heard lots of great feedback about Downtown Morris that we will use to start drafting preliminary recommendations for the Downtown Master Plan.

Some comments we heard:

Morris has a quaint downtown area that I love but I definitely see it has more possibilities to make it even greater in order to draw more people! When we look at other cities to model after and evaluate the budget carefully, we can develop a plan to attain the goals to make Morris a big attraction for visitors. (Additionally, we could enhance Stratton Park to attract more to that area in the summer.)

“I love downtown Morris and would absolutely love to be able to shop there more and support our local businesses and economy. However the hours of the downtown stores prevents me from doing so since they close at 5pm. For those of us who work 8-4:30pm or 9-5pm, shopping downtown Morris just isn’t an option.”

Love DTM. I like areas that are walkable and have local stores that you could get fresh meat, breads, fruit and can shop daily. I like the charm and ambiance of a small town but somewhere you don’t have to drive all the time.

“Morris has a very attractive downtown. We need a shoe store. I used to buy shoes in town. Now I go out of town or buy them online. In the past couple of years many of my purchases have been online. Amazon and QVC are the places I shop frequently.”

“Need more green space, public planter boxes, and outdoor cafe seating downtown. There should be a really good downtown coffee shop/cafe”

As part of the survey, those who provided their contact information were entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate from the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce good for purchases at downtown Morris businesses. We are excited to announce that the winner of that drawing is Courtney! Congratulations to the winner and thank you again to everyone who participated in the survey!
